Studio — Who We Are
Possible worlds, by design.
Looking back we can almost trace the idea of Ste. Marie to one night in a small theatre in Toronto. It was during a performance of John Mighton’s Possible Worlds that an idea took hold. In that dark room, feeling the hair stand up on his arm, Craig was taken by the notion that a multitude of potential worlds exist and we are merely wandering one of an infinite many.
Are dreams a glimpse beyond the curtain?
Is that sense of knowing someone you’ve just met a message from one of these possible worlds?
Can we see and feel these worlds as we occupy this one?
Moreover, can we conjure and create the ones we desire?
The term “possible worlds”, first attributed to Gottfried Leibniz, has been used for centuries to refer, generally, to that which could be or could have been.
Some philosophers argue that possible worlds are as real as the world we occupy.
We believe we can awaken the worlds we desire here and now and we’ve devoted our careers to the pursuit of this notion.
It’s been over twenty years since that night in the theatre and more than ten years since the creation of Ste. Marie: A studio whose singular purpose is to bring possible worlds to life. We exist to evoke feeling, to engineer experience and to activate that which can and should be.
To manifest possible worlds.
In the beginning it was all instinct, driven by the nucleus of truth that a space has something to say – something it wants to be… and that remains true. Over the years, we’ve developed tools and methodology to confidently and consistently bring these places to life.
We’ve trained and fostered our team to chase the dreamscape of these possible worlds and we’ve come to trust that this pursuit is as much science as it is alchemy. Metrics, research and strategy can be elegant as well. We’re neither solely logical nor inspired. We’re both.
As we become a practice of wider breadth and geographic reach, we’re committed to holding true to these principles and fostering a culture devoted to the worlds we can collectively reveal.
Possible worlds, by design.
